Tucking into a Penang Curry
I don’t typically order Penang curry of any variety as it’s usually too mild for my tastes. I like my curries to take my mouth on a tour of Dante’s Inferno, freaking out most chefs, or the occasional khai Jiaw
But when my friend said he got in some excellent curry paste for a mean Penang curry, I said yes. He was raving about the smell of the paste and the Muslim man who made it in bulk at the local market,…how could I say no?
Indeed it was fragrant and delicious. The first time I ordered it with shrimp but our second drive back from Ranong I ordered it with Tofu.
Penang curry can be delicious, drizzled with coconut cream and slivers of kaffir lime. If you want something a wee bit spicier, try gang som 🙂
